Chairmans Update

Hello and welcome to Walden Velo!

Its hard to believe that as the newest Cycling Club Essex that we've be able to achieve so much in our first few weeks.

Whether you're a recreational, social or competitive rider or someone new to the sport looking for some like minded individuals or just some tips, help and direction - our aim is to deliver a Club for you.

In these early days, we seem to have so much to consider, plan and deliver.

We have a need to work with experienced and riders new.

To provide regular rides, training sessions, events, competitions and to help with direction and personal goals.

Our plans include pathways with some significant partnerships within the local authorities, community and business partners that will see a ten year development plan to promote and integrate cycling within North West Essex.

It all seems very grand and in some cases very distant, but we're already working with the appropriate partners for 2014 and we've only just started this year!

The next few months should see some the obvious things come together as we roll out our "Club Rides"

Primarily focused at the weekend this will extend into several ride times during the week on a regular basis for those individuals on shift patterns or with different "free times" or a "training schedule"  - so that we can offer you something to fit in with you and be discipline specific.

For those members keen to experience, try and compete events, we will be working with several organisations to provide "closed circuit", "criterium" and MTB racing on a weekly basis for 2013 over the summer months too.

We plan to deliver our first 100 mile+ Road Sportif, that should be in place for the summer 2013.

A coordinated "local ride" taking in some idyllic villages, away from main roads that will built upon year upon year and one that you will want to do every year.
Our other main challenge for 2013 is to also ensure that we can deliver a coordinated structure and development plan for riders under the age of eighteen.

This is one of our key objectives and as this roles out over this year it will become part of our legacy plan that the Club has for the Community and all of its under eighteen's.

It won't be instant, that's a fact!

We need to make sure that we have the necessary safeguards, controls and motivated Club Members who want to get involved and deliver this exciting challenge and it will be delivered in stages.

In the first instance it will be focused on those riders who are sixteen or older as we initially bring them into the Club with personal development, training and directional plans and develop a "discipline specific" pathway accordingly  (BMX, Cyclocross, MTB, Road, Track). This will then be rolled out downwards are the infrastructure and facilities allow us accordingly.

So to summarise, we're a New Club that wants to lead from the front and we hope that we can provide something for you. But don't just take my word for it, have a look at the website, ask around and get involved...
