What a day!! ...
If you didn't join us on Sunday 13th October, then you missed what can only be described as an "interesting" day for everyone.
As daybreak approached at 7.05am on Carver Barracks the Events Team of 1WV Racing from Walden Velo stepped out straight into the worst rainfall for 2013.
I mean it didn't just rain, it really rained and with comments such as "I think I just saw Noah turn up to enter" and "you can only logically get wet once"; you knew that we were if for that "interesting" day after all!
With set-up complete, the gate was opened at 8.45am and the radio's immediately crackled into life with an exclamation from the marshalls - "we've got rider!" and from that moment onwards we knew that the event was on!
Nervous, anxious faces, bedraggled children, the clapping of arms to keep warm, the shaking off of water and that was just from the Car Park to the Event HQ. So when we set everyone off some forty five minutes later - we fully expected those brave souls to all return within the hour!
However, XC riders are a hardy breed!
Despite the atrocious conditions at times that made in tough going for everyone nearly 60% of the riders than had entered before the event set-off and only came back having completed their chosen distance of either 30/50 or 80k.
We cannot thank them enough for turning-up, taking part and for all of the smiles and compliments at the end.
As Event Organisers, this is what the team look for and it justifies the 100+ man hours that have gone into producing the smile, even if its through exhaustion or just grim determination.
So on behalf of all the Team - "thank you" for turning up, digging in and taking part!
