WV hosts Mud, Sweat and Gears

Each year, Walden Velo hosts an event in the  Mud, Sweat and Gears Eastern region's series of mountain bike races on the Carver Barracks off-road circuit. This year's event took place at the end of May, attracting over 400 entrants aged from under 9 to over 50 on the 3.2-mile course. The fastest lap of the day was just over 14 minutes.

Andrew Riley, who leads the club's involvement in this highly popular event, expressed his thanks to all those club members who volunteered their free time - both to help tidy up the course during an unseasonably cold and miserable Easter weekend, and marshall in blazing sunshine on the race day itself. We had the biggest turnout of volunteer marshals from the club this year in our five years of hosting the event.

Special thanks go to Gary Byford, in particular, who gave up two days of his holiday time to help prepare the course for the big day. And the free ice creams at the end were much appreciated by all volunteers!
