This weekend marks the start of the winter season - for us that means an extra hour in bed and a steadier overall pace. Rides will start at 8:30am in the Market Square.
This week is an exception, as it's a second attempt at last week's café ride, but in normal weeks we will have 2 hour long and 3 hour long rides. For each duration we have two speeds steady (nominally 15 - 16mph) and tempo (nominally 17 - 18mph).
With winter riding come some additional challenges to be aware of:
- Greater puncture risk: With wetter conditions more thorns and stones are on the road surface. Make sure you've got something to repair a puncture!
- Less grip: Particularly in the colder months we'll have less grip due to the cold and wet. Make sure to scrub off a little more speed than usual.
- Wet riding: Whilst the east of England is fairly dry, it still rains more over winter (see last weekend). If you can, please fit mudguards. They keep your fellow riders cleaner and, as a bonus, it means less effort cleaning your bike!
Rides meet at 8:30am in the Market Square.
One last thing - Don't forget that the clocks change on Sunday, you get two extra hours in bed!
SOCIAL NIGHT
On Wednesday night (2nd) we'll have another social night. Meet at 8pm at the Railway for a get-together!
SUNDAY RIDES - 2ND ATTEMPT AT CAFÉ RIDE?
After a long, exceptionally dry, season this weekend marks the last ride of the summer season. To mark it, Sunday's ride will be a café ride - with a stop at the El Cafecito, Fowlmere.
All routes are around 2 hours before the stop, with all groups heading directly back to Saffron Walden afterwards.
Please note that the sunrise is a few minutes after we depart the market square - You may wish to fit lights!
