Club Activities Restarting

We're pleased to announce that Walden Velo club rides will resume this weekend Sunday 4th April at 0730.

We're sure that many of you will have been riding through lockdown, coming back to club rides stronger than ever. Now is an opportunity to test yourself in a faster speed group! To encourage this we will be doing our best to ensure each speed group rides to the advertised speed. To facilitate a more even distribution of riders across the various speed groups we will be introducing the option of a 19+ group, to enable the current 19s group to run at a true 19mph. We hope that the stronger riders in the 18mph group will take advantage of the chance to find their feet in this new group and build towards riding with the 19+ group in the future.

Over the last year we've had a significant increase in membership, with many taking up cycling in 2020. If you have not ridden with the club before or are still relatively inexperienced at riding in a group, please email us so that we can offer some guidance and answer any questions you may have.

We will be starting with the summer ride schedule, which can be viewed here: https://www.waldenvelo.com/sunday-ride-schedule/.

At this time the committee feel that it is best to retain the same COVID rules used last year, however this is under review and may be updated in future weeks/months. Please take the opportunity to re-familiarise yourself with the rides guidance: https://www.waldenvelo.com/club-ride-guidelines/, in summary

  • Groups limited to 6 – Following social distancing measures at the meeting points.
  • 19+, 19 and 18mph groups will meet in the Market Square
  • 17 and 16mph groups will meet in the Common Car Park.
  • Ride leaders will collect the contact details of riders and email these to secretary@waldenvelo.com
  • Riders must be self-sufficient, with suitable supplies to fix common problems, and knowledge of the route.

In addition to our regular Sunday rides we are planning further regular rides; mid-week mornings, evening socials, and more – keep an eye out for further announcements!
