Criteriums

Continuing from strong club representation at the crit races in spring, we’ve had several members racing over the summer. At Capital Crits at Lee Valley VeloPark on 14th June, Abigail Corsie claimed 10th in the women’s category 2/3/4 race, whilst Nick Gibbs and Tom Watts were 12th and 21st respectively in the open category 4 race. Also at Lee Valley VeloPark, Abigail Corsie was 14th in the Trash Mile summer slam on 9th August.

The VIA crit returned to London Kings Cross this year on 20th June. The highly technical circuit on closed city roads took place over several days with races for all ages and categories. Tom Watts narrowly missed out on a top 10 finish, taking 11th place in the open category 4 race. Ben Thompson had a strong performance taking 2nd place in the master race.

XC mountain biking

Andrew Cockburn took on three rounds of the Lloyds national XC MTB series. Andy put in a series of great performances in Master 40+ category, racing against the very best riders in UK. Andy was 25th in round 1 in Rugeley, 12th in round 2 at Port Talbot and 20th in round 4 in Tong. Well done to Andy for representing the club at the highest level of domestic mtb racing!

Cyclocross

CC Ashwell once again ran their annual summer CX series in August. An excellent pre-season opener, the short track course packs in plenty of technical features to challenge seasoned cx racers and newcomers alike. We had six Walden Velo members taking part. Harry Rudd showed a particularly strong performance, taking home two 2nd places and two 3rd places across the four events. Other members results across the four races were Joe Curtis (8th, 8th, 9th, 14th), Tom Ward (10th, 12th, 14th), Abigail Corsie (26th, 29th), Toby Harris (21st, 33rd) and Tom Powell (33rd).

Time trials

Our summer TT series wrapped up on 28th August, with eight events taking place on our local sporting 10.2-mile ITT route. Noah Gibson won the men’s road category both by points, and the fastest men’s road bike time this year was set by Kasper Brazier in 22:37. In the men’s TT category Tom Bishop won the most points and posted the fastest time of 22 minutes on the dot. The women’s road bike category was won by Ariane Lismer who also set the fastest women’s road bike time of 28:29, and the women’s TT category was won by Georgina Dunlop who recorded 27:38. Full results are posted in the table below. Well done to all our participants and a huge thank you to the volunteers who ensured this event could run, many of whom volunteered for multiple events.
